Patient Care Technology Systems Acquires nuMedica Emergency Department Tracking Solution
Posted on: Thursday, 15 December 2005, 15:00 CST
Patient Care Technology Systems (PCTS), a medical software subsidiary of Consulier Engineering Inc. (NASDAQ:CSLR), announced today that they have completed the acquisition of the patient tracking solutions of Golden, Colo.-based nuMedica Inc. (www.numedica.com) for an undisclosed cash amount. nuMedica is a provider of documentation solutions for emergency departments.
Previously marketed by nuMedica under the branding, TrackingED, the emergency department tracking system is a Web-based tracking solution that replaces the white board to organize patient location and care status information while protecting the privacy of patient information. The solution incorporates discharge instructions, a prescription writer and a reporting tool.
"Having successfully completed the sale of our paper charting business to PCTS earlier this year, we are pleased to keep our tracking solutions as part of the same portfolio," said Peter Hudson, M.D., president of nuMedica. "PCTS has emerged as one of the leading providers of workflow and documentation solutions to emergency departments. Finding an organization that would ensure that our TrackingED customers will continue to receive excellent customer support was an important factor in our decision to work with PCTS."
This is the third acquisition by PCTS (www.pcts.com) within the past 12 months following the acquisition of Healthcare I.T. Inc., the leading provider of passive tracking software in U.S. emergency departments, and recently the paper charting division of nuMedica. "PCTS offers emergency departments a variety of solutions to track the location of their patients and assets using both active and passive methods," said Tony Marsico, CEO of PCTS. "Together with our strength in clinical documentation, PCTS offers the broadest portfolio of solutions to meet the needs of emergency departments at all stages of electronic medical record adoption."
According to the American Hospital Association, over 115 million patient visits occurred in U.S. emergency departments in 2003, an increase of over 18 million visits in the past decade. Increasing patient volume combined with chronic staffing shortages have required emergency departments to seek new solutions to streamline patient flow, reduce wait times, and enhance standard of care. Computer-based patient tracking can be an effective support tool in managing an emergency department.
PCTS is a sponsor of the Inaugural Summit on Healthcare Identification & Tracking (www.tcbi.org) to be held in San Francisco on Dec. 15-16. Members of PCTS management team and customers will be speaking on the role of patient tracking technologies to streamline patient care and improve patient safety.
