Michigan Weight-Loss Expert Offers Holiday Survival Tips
SOUTHFIELD, Mich., Dec. 19 /PRNewswire/ — It’s a fact that Americans will gain 1-3 pounds during the holiday season, which typically begins Thanksgiving and ends the day after New Year’s Day.
Medical Weight Loss Clinic(R) has holiday survival tips to help combat holiday weight gain.
“These are the tips we give to our patients,” said Alberta Lipinski, LPN of Medical Weight Loss Clinic(R). “Many of our patients tell us it’s what helps them keep their weight under control during the holidays,” said Lipinski.
Lipinski said the most important tip is to think and plan ahead. She suggests using a calendar to record events that may challenge you, such as the holiday office party or a family gathering.
* Dinner parties: Ask what will be served, so you can plan ahead of time what you will eat.
* Party foods: Avoid hors d’oeuvres by eating a healthy snack before you leave the house or select healthy party foods.
* Wear clothing that fits instead of loose-fitting or stretchy clothing.
* Focus on friends and family that you will be seeing, not the food that will be served.
* Spend time talking to guests at the party. This leaves little time to visit the snacks.
* Use only one plate if dinner is served “buffet” style and focus on foods such as salad, healthy meats, and seafood.
* Avoid finger foods. Do not eat anything with your fingers. * Avoid gravies, sauces and foods that are fried.
* Avoid desserts. It is much easier to have nothing than to have “just one.”
* Drink plenty of water and avoid alcohol.
* Above all, do not allow yourself to feel deprived. You are making a choice to be healthy.
