CIGNA Behavioral Health's Dallas Regional Care Center Receives Full Accreditation By NCQA

Posted on: Monday, 9 January 2006, 15:00 CST

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn., Jan. 9, 2006 /PRNewswire/ -- CIGNA Behavioral Health, Inc. (CBH) announced today that its Regional Care Center located in Dallas, Texas has received Full Accreditation by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA). The accreditation is effective December 2005 and extends for a three-year period.

NCQA accreditation includes a review of the success of customer service and quality standards that help members get effective health care. A rigorous on-site evaluation is also part of the process. The Dallas CBH Regional Care Center demonstrated strong member satisfaction and clinical quality scores.

"CBH is committed to quality and service," said Keith Dixon, president and chief executive officer of CBH. "We are pleased that the NCQA has recognized our excellence in these areas and has awarded our Dallas Regional Care Center full accreditation."

In addition to its Dallas center, CBH has two other Regional Care Centers in Maryland and Minnesota. In keeping with the company's mission to deliver consistent service and access to quality care, both of these facilities also have full accreditation status from the NCQA.

"We are committed to ensuring that our members get the personal support and help they need to manage their behavioral health concerns," Dixon adds.

In addition to its accredited Regional Care Center, CBH offers its customers 24/7 online access to behavioral health specialists, online information about mental health issues, customized coaching and a Clinical Leadership Team focused on integration of medical and behavioral health care.

CIGNA Behavioral Health (CBH) provides behavioral care benefit management, EAPs, and work/life programs to consumers through health plans offered by large U.S. employers, national and regional HMOs, Taft-Hartley trusts and disability insurers. CBH, with headquarters in Eden Prairie, Minn., operates care management centers around the U.S. in support of a national network of more than 56,800 independent psychiatrists, psychologists and clinical social workers and more than 5,100 facilities and clinics. The National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) is a private, not-for- profit organization dedicated to assessing and reporting on the quality of managed care plans. It is governed by a Board of Directors that includes employers, consumer and labor representatives, health plans, quality experts, policy makers, and representatives from organized medicine. NCQA's mission is to provide information that enables purchases and consumers of managed health care to distinguish among plans based on quality, thereby allowing them to make more informed health care purchasing decisions. This encourages plans to compete based on quality and value, rather than on price and provider network. The activities of NCQA are organized around two general categories: accreditation and performance measurement. The criteria include such key areas as member satisfaction, quality of care, access, and service.
