CHD Meridian Healthcare Opens On-Site Health Centers for Lowe's Employees

Posted on: Tuesday, 10 January 2006, 09:01 CST

CHADDS FORD, Pa., Jan. 10 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- I-trax, Inc. , a leader in integrated health and productivity management, announced today that CHD Meridian Healthcare, an I-trax company, has opened two employer-sponsored, on-site health centers for Lowe's Companies , the second largest home improvement retailer in the world, at its distribution centers in Plainfield, Conn. and Kissimmee, Fla. Three additional on-site health centers are scheduled to open in the first half of 2006.

The two opened health centers serve approximately 1,800 employees and the three additional centers will serve about 5,000 more employees once operational. CHD Meridian Healthcare manages and staffs the health centers with a nurse practitioner at each facility. The health centers provide on-site acute primary care and wellness services designed to complement Lowe's existing healthcare plans. The services, such as health assessments, emergency care, health education and promotion and distribution of first medication dose of simple antibiotics, are offered at no cost to the employees.

"Our objective is to provide a competitive benefits package and to partner with our employees to keep them healthy and productive," said Bob Ihrie, Lowe's vice president of compensation and benefits. "By offering on-site healthcare at a zero co-pay, we hope to encourage more of our hourly wage employees to focus on their health and to help us control healthcare expense for both the employee and the company. We have received very positive initial feedback from our employees at the two open locations and look forward to opening our additional sites."

"We are very proud that Lowe's, one of the fastest growing retail companies in the United States has selected CHD Meridian Healthcare to operate and manage its workplace health centers," said I-trax's chairman, Frank A. Martin. "These new health centers provide employees at these Lowe's locations with a trusted and convenient healthcare option, whether they participate in the company's health plan or not. By taking this leadership role in improving its employees' health, we believe Lowe's is offering a better employee benefit package, strengthening its position as an employer of choice and taking a significant step toward lowering the company's healthcare costs."
