The Pharmaceutical Institute Announces Availability of More Than 40 Disease State and Therapeutic Area E-Courses

Posted on: Tuesday, 17 January 2006, 15:00 CST

RALEIGH, N.C., Jan. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- The Pharmaceutical Institute (PI), the leading provider of specialized knowledge for pharma and biotech professionals, today announced the availability of a library of more than 40 e-Courses covering various therapeutic areas and disease states. The courses are available through its online Education Center, providing live and Internet-based applied educational resources and customized educational programs. Overall, the company is building the world's largest single library of industry-related information and educational resources.

The PI's e-Courses cover a wide range of diseases and therapeutic areas, including cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, infectious disease, metabolic, musculoskeletal, neurology, oncology, respiratory, and rheumatology. Separate courses also exist within each therapeutic area. For example, the oncology category includes separate courses on breast, colorectal, prostate, and lung cancer.

"All pharma and biotech industry professionals serving in commercial functions, such as sales and marketing, need to remain well informed about therapeutic advances in medicine. Our educational courses can help them to do their jobs more effectively by offering them a way to better understand the therapeutic areas in which they work," stated Dan Blue, Executive Director of the Pharmaceutical Institute.

Each course provides comprehensive information on the anatomy and physiology involved using detailed images, common disease states, and mechanisms of action within each therapeutic area. Most courses are between two to five hours in length and are presented in a streaming multimedia format.

As a bonus, courses, once purchased, can be accessed via an online "reading room" for completion at the user's convenience over a 90-day period. The costs range from as low as $150 for a one-part therapeutic area course to $600 for a four-part course on HIV and AIDS. Pharma and biotech companies can also work closely with the PI to develop courses with specialized content.

In addition to the Education Center, the Pharmaceutical Institute encompasses the Research Center, which provides both Web-based and live support for clients seeking information relevant to their strategic and operational needs, including books, syndicated market research, and custom research services available through a team of knowledge managers and library scientists. By leveraging the PI's expertise, companies can spend more time productively applying knowledge tailored to their needs and less time searching for knowledge resources.
