Guardian and The Destiny Health Plan(TM) Bolster Consumer-Directed Healthcare Business With Three New Non-Profit Accounts

Posted on: Thursday, 19 January 2006, 12:00 CST

CHICAGO, Jan. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Guardian Life Insurance Company of America (Guardian) and Destiny Health, today announced that two Washington, D.C.-based think tanks and an Arlington, Virginia-based professional association have enrolled in the joint venture's consumer-directed health plan.

Coverage began in November for American Enterprise Institute and will begin in January for the Cato Institute and the Consumer Electronics Association.

"We are proud to have won the support of such prestigious organizations," said Destiny Health CEO Scott Spiker. "We look forward to enriching the lives of their employees through our innovative health and wellness programs. We are committed to providing not only affordable access to care, but also to motivating clients to take an active role in their wellbeing and changing their behavior for a healthier lifestyle."

Janette Stout, Cato's director of administration, cited the organization's belief in consumerism, its support of Health Savings Accounts and the "sophistication" of Guardian and Destiny Health's administrative systems as reasons for selecting the company.

"In the face of rising health care costs, non-profit organizations and small businesses can benefit from the cost effective and rich benefits of Guardian's Destiny Health Plan," said Richard White, Guardian Senior Vice President, Group Insurance. "Empowering consumers to control and maximize their health spending and making healthcare affordable and accessible to small and mid-size businesses is part of Guardian's commitment to enriching lives."

CEA president and CEO Gary Shapiro said his organization chose Guardian's Destiny Health Plan because it reflects the association's values and reflects the trend of encouraging wellness.

"Our 150 employees have long enjoyed a voluntary wellness program, including healthy food, exercise, disease prevention and detection," he said. "With its cutting edge approach, Guardian's Destiny Health Plan is the only program we found that matched our philosophy."
