Work Stress ‘Major Factor’ in Causing Heart Disease
January 20, 2006
STRESS in the workplace is a major factor in heart disease and diabetes, researchers said today.
Stress at work has been linked to heart disease in a number of previous studies, but the biological processes behind the association remain unclear.
Now a study, published online in the British Medical Journal, has found new evidence of the biology to possibly explain this important link.
The researchers discovered a link between the amount of stress experienced in a job and the lev-els of metabolic syndrome symptoms like high blood pressure and cholesterol.
Unions have long called for greater efforts to tackle stress.
