Bio/Data Corporation Expands Marketing Department
Bio/Data Corporation (“Bio/Data”), manufacturer, seller and distributor of hemostasis and platelet function medical laboratory products, announced that William M. Trolio, its Marketing Manager, has been appointed Vice President.
In addition, the Horsham-based company announced the appointment of two managers – Kay Callahan and Mason Loika – to serve on Bio/Data’s marketing team. Kay Callahan will be Customer Care Manager, and Mason Loika, Corporate Communications Manager.
Eugene J. Messa, Bio/Data’s President and Chief Executive Officer, said, “Bill Trolio is the guiding force for our marketing activities, and his knowledge in the medical laboratory industry is second to none. This advancement recognizes how highly we value his future contributions to the company.”
Trolio, 58, joined Bio/Data in 1997 after an 18-year career at Bassett Healthcare, where he integrated and revitalized Bassett’s clinical departments. His subsequent move to Bio/Data served as a sweet homecoming, because from 1974 to 1979 Trolio directed marketing and training programs for Bio/Data in Hatboro, Pa.
From 1980 to 1994, he unified the medical laboratories of Cooperstown, NY-based Bassett Hospital into a multi-site university department, and oversaw a nine-fold increase in revenue surpassing $18 million. Trolio holds an MBA in Health Services Administration from Northland University in Toronto, Canada, and received his BS degree in life sciences/medical technology from the University at Albany, NY.
At various times in his career, Trolio has been a clinical laboratory scientist, medical technologist and laboratory technician. He holds professional memberships in the Association for Laboratory Automation, Licensing Executives Society and the CLSI Platelet Function Subcommittee. He is a constant reader, regularly absorbing the latest medical journals, and lives in Perkasie, Pa. with his wife, Judy.
Catherine (“Kay”) Callahan, 60, Customer Care Manager, joined Bio/Data in October 2005 after a 15-year career implementing and maintaining laboratory information systems in the Philadelphia area for Catholic Health East, including three Mercy hospitals; and Tenet Health System’s Warminster Hospital, Medical College of Pennsylvania, Elkins Park Hospital, St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children and Hahnemann University Hospital.
From 1975-1991, Callahan specialized in hematology and coagulation while working as a medical laboratory technologist, enabling her to troubleshoot malfunctioning equipment and testing procedures. “Kay’s hands-on approach,” Trolio stated, “to solving lab problems enables her to function as a prime resource for customers who rely upon our products and instruments. And she understands the role of laboratory computer systems.”
Mason Loika, 62, Corporate Communications Manager, is a South Florida transplant who moved to Dublin, Pa., after writing and publishing a full-length book in 2002 about a Hungarian survivor in the Soviet gulag. Loika’s background includes freelance writing for The Miami Herald in 1986, staff writing/editing for the now-defunct Miami News in 1978-80, pre-press production work for RR Donnelley Financial, and the preparation and transmission of news releases while Wire Chief/Editor at PR Newswire’s Miami office during the mid-1970s. He joined Bio/Data in November 2005.
“Mason brings a broad range of experience, maturity and skill to Bio/Data,” Trolio noted. “Since he is not a technical writer, he has the wherewithal to tell Bio/Data’s story from a layman’s point of view. That’s important for those who eschew medical jargon in favor of plain English.”
Bio/Data Corporation’s flagship product is the PAP-8E Platelet Aggregation Profiler(R), an impressive-looking laboratory instrument utilized for testing platelet function. Test results provide a vital pathway enabling medical professionals to diagnose various stages of hemostasis disorders, including von Willebrand Disease, hemophilia and Glanzmann’s disease, or to monitor the use of antiplatelet drugs like Plavix(R) and aspirin. Other Bio/Data products consist of reagents and disposables to augment the variety of platelet testing.
The company is ISO 9001:2000 registered, and all its aggregation products are CE marked.
