Briefs: St. John Seminar to Educate Women About Heart Disease

St. John Medical Center will hold a seminar to help educate women about the seriousness of heart disease.

Participants will learn about warning signs for women of heart disease, risk factors and prevention methods, a media release states.

The session will be held at 10 a.m. Feb. 7 in the Mary K. Chapman Health Plaza, 1819 E. 19th St. It is being held in conjunction with the American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women initiative.

In addition, beginning at 8:30 a.m., screenings for blood pressure, cholesterol, glucose and risk factors will be available for $10 each.

Discussion series to cover separation of church, state

The 2006 Interfaith Trialogue Series will discuss “Jefferson’s Wall: the American Separation of Church and State.”

Religious leaders will lead the free, public discussions that examine the origins, evolution and status of the U.S. concept of separation of church and state.

The sessions are slated from 2 to 4 p.m. on the following dates and locations: Feb. 19 at Boston Avenue United Methodist Church, 1301 S. Boston Ave.; Feb. 26 at Temple Israel, 2004 E. 22nd Place; and March 5 at Peace Academy, 4620 S. Irvington Ave., a media release states.

The series is sponsored by the Oklahoma Conference for Community and Justice, with funding support from the Tulsa Library trust’s Alfred E. Aaronson Lecture Series Endowment.

Daffodil Days sales to help American Cancer Society

The American Cancer Society’s Daffodil Days fundraiser is under way with a Feb. 14 deadline to order deliveries of daffodils the week of March 6.

The fundraiser features the Boyds Bear creation, Flowers R. Hope, which for a $25 donation will be delivered with 10 daffodils, a media release states. This year’s goal for eastern Oklahoma is $40,000.

In addition, a donation of $10 will pay for delivery of 10 flowers, and a donation of $15 will pay for delivery of a Cheer bouquet.

Orders for the flowers may be placed by calling the American Cancer Society Office at 477-5402.
