Food for Thought; 7-Eleven(R) Joins FDA at Agency's Centennial Celebration in Dallas

Posted on: Thursday, 2 February 2006, 18:01 CST

DALLAS, Feb. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- For more than 20 years, 7-Eleven(R) Quality Services Manager Patsy Ross has depended on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to help her and the convenience retailer's staff of technical personnel develop standards and procedures to bring 7-Eleven customers high-quality fresh foods and proprietary beverages. It's a job the government agency has been doing for 100 years.

7-Eleven's Ross, along with representatives from other major food companies based in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, will have an opportunity to recognize and thank FDA officials for a century of service at a commemoration Friday, Feb. 3, at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center.

The Pure Foods and Drug Act in 1906 established the FDA as a scientific regulatory agency, making it the oldest consumer protection agency in the nation and one of the most respected public health regulatory agencies in the world. FDA is marking its centennial anniversary with events in major cities across the United States. The Dallas event from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. will feature an exhibit that includes historic documents and photos, and discussions with visiting FDA officials. The event is being planned by FDA staff members at the Southwest Regional Office here in Dallas.
