CHICAGO, Feb. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Vanderbilt University Medical Center has chosen Health eConnex, a leading provider of end-to-end processing solutions for the healthcare industry, to streamline a number of patient accounting functions.
Health eConnex has integrated Hyland Software's OnBase document management tool with Vanderbilt's practice management and hospital information systems, which provides Vanderbilt with instant access to explanation of benefits (EOB) documents directly from their core business applications.
Health eConnex will also handle scanning and indexing functions for the medical center's patient accounting departments. They will scan and index more than 3 million EOB forms for Vanderbilt each year, thereby eliminating the labor-intensive aspect of document imaging and enabling Vanderbilt staff to view EOB forms online.
"Our ability to integrate OnBase with Vanderbilt's host applications greatly simplifies the document retrieval process," says Brendan Friar, executive vice president of Health eConnex. "Instead of managing two applications, the end users can work within their existing systems and access associated documents with a simple click of the mouse."
"Health eConnex delivered and the staff just loves it," states Bryon Pickard, director of operations for the Vanderbilt Medical Group business office. "The new OnBase solution greatly expands our capabilities for monitoring expected reimbursements, filing secondary claims, denial management, reconciling account balances, and answering insurance questions from our patients."
"Electronic images are a new experience to the hospital billing and collection staff," adds Gary Perrizo, director of patient accounting. "The staff is amazed that by simply clicking their mouse, the EOB appears on their computer screen. One long-time employee was quoted as saying 'it just cannot be this easy.' Access to electronic images will increase productivity from our staff by eliminating labor-intensive retrieval of EOBs. Having scanned images also means no more misplaced documents. The scanning system will provide a cost savings to our office with the elimination of copies and storage cost. There will also be an increase in patient satisfaction with our billing practices in that we can answer the questions without delay and call backs."
The OnBase document management tool that Health eConnex integrated with Vanderbilt's practice management systems was developed by Hyland Software in Westlake, Ohio.
Health eConnex is a wholly owned subsidiary of Accelerated Receivables Management (ARM), a 25-year-old eBusiness infrastructure company that specializes in helping healthcare facilities outsource processes that are not part of their core competencies.
