GAITHERSBURG, Maryland (Reuters) – Prescription drugs to
treat attention deficit disorder should come with strong
‘black-box’ warnings that they may increase the risk of heart
problems in some patients, a U.S. advisory panel said on
Thursday.

The Food and Drug Administration committee voted 8-7 in
favor of the warning, with one abstention. Fifteen members also
voted to recommend the drugs, which include Novartis AG’s
Ritalin and Shire Pharmaceuticals Group Plc’s Adderall, be
dispensed with a patient-friendly guide that explained possible
side effects.
