Feb. 11–CHANDLER — A jury has convicted an Oklahoma City man of drug charges for his involvement in a drug ring that operated in northern Oklahoma.

The Lincoln County District Court jury recommended this week that Gary Smith, 60, be sentenced to six years in prison for conspiracy to traffic methamphetamine and two years for unlawful use of a telephone. His formal sentencing is scheduled March 1.

Smith was arrested in July 2004 along with more than two dozen other people prosecutors allege were part of a drug ring led by Harlan Evans, 42, of Wellston. Evans was convicted June 28 and sentenced to life plus 285 years in prison.

Assistant District Attorney Clayton Niemeyer said agents recorded telephone conversations of Smith and Evans discussing potential drug transactions.
