Research Week Set By OSU

Feb. 14–Oklahoma State University will celebrate all things scientific Feb. 20-24 with its annual Research Week.

“OSU Research Week will focus on the diversity of research across our campuses and the many benefits of research for our stakeholders,” Dr. Stephen McKeever, OSU’s vice president for research and technology transfer, said in a statement. “We are expecting some thought-provoking speakers, workshops and events commemorating OSU research.”

Research Week highlights include:

Monday: Dr. John Mowen, regents professor in OSU’s department of marketing, kicks off the week by delving into the complicated relationship between science and society and an anti-science movement that Mowen believes could render researchers irrelevant.

Feb. 21: Dr. Rafael Fierro, Brent Perteet and James McClintock, OSU’s school of electrical and computer engineering, will demonstrate three robotic games designed for American Indian children between the ages of 6 and 10.

Feb. 22: Dr. Roland Fryer, Harvard economist, looks at the condition of black America and the racial achievement gap in education.

Feb. 23: Pulitzer Prize-winning author Jared Diamond will look at past societies and discuss the more recent belief that their collapses were in part because of environmental problems, much like those experienced today.

Feb. 24: The OSU Center for Health Sciences research symposium in Tulsa showcases the translational research taking place at OSU-CHS.
