Health Management Corporation Receives NCQA Disease Management Accreditation; Six Programs Recognized for Superior Quality

Posted on: Tuesday, 14 February 2006, 15:01 CST

Health Management Corporation (HMC), a leading integrated care management company headquartered in Richmond, Va., has received National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) Patient and Practitioner Oriented Accreditation for its asthma, coronary artery disease, heart failure, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, diabetes and maternity programs. HMC's Full Accreditation is effective January 12, 2006 to January 12, 2009.

"Earning this Accreditation is an indication that our disease management programs are dedicated to giving patients and practitioners the systems support, education and help necessary to ensure good outcomes and quality care," said Joan Kennedy, president of Health Management Corporation.

HMC's programs receiving Accreditation use leading edge technology, advanced predictive models and rigorous evaluation methodology to ensure each patient receives the best course of treatment. Achieving Full NCQA Accreditation is a signal of HMC's continued commitment to quality and constant program improvement.

"NCQA's Disease Management Accreditation program is thorough and rigorous. It's designed to highlight only those programs that truly improve chronic care," said NCQA President, Margaret E. O'Kane. "HMC is to be commended for being one of the first organizations in the nation to come forward to be reviewed."

NCQA Accreditation standards are developed with input from researchers in the field, the Disease Management Advisory Council (DMAC) and standing committees; employers, both purchasers and operators of disease management programs; state and federal regulators and other experts. Accreditation standards are purposely set high to encourage organizations to continually enhance their quality.

Health Management Corporation participates in the NCQA Accreditation voluntary review process to continuously improve the organization and its programs.
