Typhus Hits Five in Southern Kyrgyzstan - Disease Control Officials

BISHKEK. Feb 15 (Interfax) - An outbreak of typhus has been registered in the south of Kyrgyzstan, the Jalal-Abad center for sanitary and epidemiologic control said on Wednesday.
Eight people suspected of typhus have been hospitalized, a statement says. "The disease has been confirmed in five cases," the center's experts told journalists.
According to the preliminary information, contaminated water is to blame.
Doctors are monitoring 260 people. "The epidemic has been localized," the statement says.
