Posted on: Friday, 17 February 2006, 12:00 CST

The Social Security Administration (SSA) recently awarded its Mental Health Treatment Study (MHTS) contract to Westat, with ValueOptions and Colorado Health Networks (CHN) serving as the project's ASO (Administrative Services Only).

ValueOptions and Colorado Health Networks will provide 24-hour participant and provider customer service for questions regarding reimbursement for mental health and selected physical health services, out-of-pocket expenses, vocational and financial planning services, laboratory services, and medications.

ValueOptions and Colorado Health Networks will also coordinate benefits for these services, engage in dispute resolution as required, and process claims out of MHTS grant funds for all services not covered by another insurer. In addition, ValueOptions' Doctors Steve Holsenbeck and Edward Knight will provide clinical and programmatic consultation for the program, particularly as it relates to implementing the principles of recovery and resiliency, maximizing consumer leadership and involvement, and identifying and implementing alternate services/levels of care to support consumers in their homes and communities.

"ValueOptions and Colorado Health Networks look forward to participating in this Mental Health Treatment Study as the project's ASO," said Dr. Steve Holsenbeck, executive director of Colorado Health Networks. "Our innovative technologies will provide first-rate service to participants and ensure that they receive efficient care."

"We selected ValueOptions and Colorado Health Networks for its extensive experience processing reimbursements for a variety of non-healthcare claim types, customer service experience with non-healthcare providers, and reputation in the area of consumer self-determination and empowerment," says William Frey, PhD., associate director of Health Studies, at Westat.
