Pataki Kept in Hospital an Extra Day

New York Gov. George Pataki, who had an operation for a ruptured appendix last week, has been ordered to stay in the hospital an extra day.
Pataki had suffered abdominal pains for about a day before admitting himself to the hospital Thursday. He was expected to leave the hospital Saturday, but his doctors suggested he stay another day, the New York Daily News reported Sunday.
The doctors at Hudson Valley Hospital Center wanted the Republican governor to have bed rest and antibiotics via an IV for one more day.
Dr. Wiji Ratnathicam, a surgeon, said the extra day in the hospital was a precaution and not a sign of any setback.
The governor's doing great, he said. He did have a ruptured appendix and we decided it would be prudent to keep him in and give him IV antibiotics for another day.
