APHA gave a special thanks to state and local public health workers in November during the nation’s first “Public Health Thank You Day.”
On Nov. 21, the Association partnered with Research!America, the National Association of County and City Health Officials, Association of Schools of Public Health and Association of State and Territorial Health Officials to ask Americans to honor the efforts of public health workers. To mark the occasion, ResearchlAmerica placed advertisements in newspapers around the country to thank state and local public health heroes.
“The men and women of our nation’s largely unrecognized health work force battle daily health threats to ensure we live healthier lives,” said APHA Executive Director Georges Benjamin, MD, FACP, in an Association news release. “In this age of health dangers such as pandemic influenza and bioterrorism, these individuals are essential to the well-being of this nation.”
To promote the event, Research!America created a toolkit with downloadable advertisements and instructions that organizations could use to promote their public health work. Among the organizations that took part in Public Health Thank You Day was the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
