The Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons has granted continued approval to the cancer program at Deaconess Hospital in Oklahoma City.

Established in 1922 by the American College of Surgeons, the commission is a consortium of professional organizations dedicated to reducing the morbidity and mortality of cancer.

We have again received this prestigious recognition from the Commission on Cancer, said John R. Taylor, radiation oncologist. It signifies the dedication Deaconess places on the highest-quality, compassionate cancer care available.

Deaconess offers a program for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer.

The addition of a linear accelerator enabled Deaconess to offer Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy in 2003. Another service, brachytherapy, is a highly advanced, noninvasive outpatient procedure for localized treatment of early-stage prostate cancer.

Deaconess became the only Oklahoma City site for TomoTherapy in 2005. TomoTherapy is a radiation cancer treatment using 3-D imaging prior to each treatment.
