Feb. 23--A West Virginia man was arrested by state police Wednesday after they stopped his vehicle on Interstate 78 in Tilden Township and found a pound of cocaine with a street value of $45,000 and a 9 mm handgun, investigators said.
Shannon Keith Allen, 28, Fairmont, was committed to Berks County Prison in lieu of $100,000 bail following arraignment before District Judge Gloria W. Stitzel on drug and weapons charges.
State police said they pulled over Allen about 11:30 a.m. for an equipment violation on westbound I-78 in Tilden.
Troopers said Allen agreed to let them search his vehicle, and a police dog found the drugs and handgun in a hidden compartment.
