Weekend Offers Medical Information, Health Food, Entertainment and Fun

Posted on: Monday, 27 February 2006, 12:01 CST

The medical conference "Intestinal Health... And Beyond!" will focus on some of today's hottest health topics -- gluten sensitivity, chemical sensitivity and autoimmune disorders. The event is the weekend of March 3-5 and will be at the Adam's Mark Hotel, 400 N. Olive Street in downtown Dallas. The conference is an educational program offered by the Intestinal Health Institute (IHI), a Dallas-based nonprofit organization.

Dr. Kenneth Fine, founder and director of the IHI, will discuss the initial findings of his study on using stool tests rather than blood tests and biopsies in diagnosing immunologic food sensitivity, intestinal malabsorption and colitis. He will also offer guidance on how to live more comfortably with painful autoimmune disorders in the lecture "Arthritis, Arthralgia and Fibromyalgia: How Not to Hurt." Through a series of lectures, Dr. Fine will provide dietary recommendations on how to undo and prevent ill health and the importance of the mind and spirit to overall health.

In addition to Dr. Fine, Dr. William Rea, founder and current director of the Environmental Health Center in Dallas, will lecture on "Chemical Sensitivity: Why it Happens, How to Cope." Atlanta-based Dr. Harry Delcher will present the lecture "The Great Hormone Robbery: How Gluten-Induced Autoimmunity is Stealing your Hormones, and what a Gluten-Free Diet Can Do To Get Them Back."

Dr. Neil Shulman, author of the book made into the movie "Doc Hollywood," will perform "Laughter is the Best Medicine: Don't Take Yourself Too Seriously." Dr. Fine, who is also a professional musician, will perform health-inspiring songs he has written during the weekend.

The conference weekend costs $250 for Saturday and Sunday lectures and meals; $150 for Saturday only lectures and meals; and $125 for Sunday only. Registration information is available at www.intestinalhealth.org/Dallasevent or call 972-686-6869.
