A study has shown that eating dietary fibre specifically from fruits and cereals lowers the risk of heart disease. A previous research has suggested a connection between a higher intake of fibre and a lower risk of heart disease.
For each 10-gram increment of fibre consumed per day, researchers have found a 14% decrease in the risk of coronary heart disease and a 27% decrease in the risk of dying from coronary heart disease. Fibre from cereals and fruits seem to be more protective than fibre from vegetables.
