Wireless sensor system on trial in Singapore General Hospital
SINGAPORE, Feb. 28 (Xinhua) -- A wireless sensor system is on trial in the orthopedic ward of the Singapore General Hospital ( SGH), Channel NewsAsia reported on Tuesday.
With ThermoSensors tagged to patients' body, doctors and nurses can check their temperatures at any time through the hospital's computers or even Personal Data Assistants (PDAs).
Developed by Cady Scientific, a local company providing wireless sensing and tracking solutions, the system helps reduce both the manual labor of nurses and the disturbance to patients.
Worth 100,000 Singapore dollars (about 61,576 U.S. dollars), it is expected to be used for monitoring patients' other vital signs such as heart rate and blood pressure.
It is also useful to trace contacts between hospital staff and patients, especially in infectious cases, after the staff are equipped with Radio-Frequency Identifications.
The system will be used in other wards of SGH gradually, and other hospitals in Singapore plan to introduce such system by the middle of this year, said the report.
