Following a multi-hospital analysis of drug reference information systems, HCA has signed a long-term contract with Gold Standard Inc. for its electronic drug information application, Clinical Pharmacology. The HCA contract includes all HCA hospitals and those serviced by HCA's IT&S department, including many Triad and all LifePoint hospitals throughout the country, according to Marianne Messer, executive vice president of sales and corporate development for Gold Standard. Combined adjusted admissions reported for the three hospital systems in 2004 were more than 3,000,000, and the collective average length of stay was about 4.6 days.
Additionally, the HCA, Triad and LifePoint hospitals included will have access to Clinical Pharmacology OnHand, Gold Standard's PDA application.
"We recently conducted a pilot evaluation with some facilities that use Clinical Pharmacology and some that use a competitor service," said Jim Eldridge, Director of Pharmacy Supply Chain Services at HCA. "The evaluation group included pharmacists, nurses, physicians, respiratory therapists and representatives from our Quality Department. The results were overwhelmingly positive in favor of Clinical Pharmacology as our primary drug reference system."
"Gold Standard and HCA share the same important commitments -- to provide quality patient care and to improve human life. We look forward to assisting HCA in meeting their goals by providing the highest caliber drug information to support their caregivers, ensuring their patients' safety and best possible health outcomes," states Messer. "We are pleased that Clinical Pharmacology has been so well received by the hospitals that they chose it as the primary drug reference for all HCA IT&S serviced facilities."
Clinical Pharmacology provides up-to-date, peer-reviewed, clinically-relevant information on all U.S. prescription drugs, as well as off-label uses and dosage, herbal supplements, nutritional and over-the-counter products and new and investigational drugs. It is the frontline drug information resource for more than 1,000 hospitals, the majority of the country's largest retail pharmacy chains and consultant pharmacy corporations, many of the country's top U.S. pharmacy and medical schools, and leading health information websites. It is used by hundreds-of-thousands of healthcare professionals and consumers worldwide.
