Exercise Important to Dropping Cholesterol
March 7, 2006
A skinny body may a reason not to exercise as much but a new study shows thin people can be at risk of heart problems too.
Researchers in London found low levels of dangerous cholesterol in thin people who exercised, the BBC reports.
But in skinny and obese people, neither of whom exercised, the study found similar levels of the LDL cholesterol.
Dr. Gary O’Donovan, exercise physiologist at Brunel University and architect of the study, said there is a common misconception that losing weight is the only benefit of exercising.
Dr. Charmaine Griffiths of the British Heart Foundation said a low diet and working out will lead to lower blood cholesterol levels.
She recommends 30 minutes of exercise five times a week.
