Melamedia Seminar on Clinical Trial Billing Under Medicare Focuses on Lessons Learned From Rush University Medical Center Settlement
Posted on: Wednesday, 8 March 2006, 12:00 CST
The rules on billing Medicare for services provided in clinical trials have become more comprehensible with the recent landmark settlement with Rush University Medical Center that the HHS Office of Inspector General called a model for handling billing compliance issues.
Medicare's guidance in clinical trial billing requires medical centers to determine which services are billable to Medicare and which are not, based on a variety of factors - including the sponsorship contract. This process has been plagued by confusion and complexity for many clinical trial centers.
The settlement with Rush University Medical Center answered a lot of questions.
To explain the implications for the clinical trials research community, Melamedia's Drug & Biologic Guidance Watch is sponsoring a 90-minute audio seminar on March 28:
New Approaches For Clinical Trial Billing Under Medicare: Lessons Learned From The Rush University Medical Center Settlement.
PARTICIPANTS WILL BE BRIEFED ON:
-- Significant billing and accounting issues implicated by Medicare's guidance that were central to the settlement;
-- Key considerations in establishing compensation arrangements with the trial sponsors;
-- Creating effective financial analyses to determine research-related procedures that qualify for Medicare coverage;
-- Establishing appropriate billing systems;
-- What to do when problems occur;
and much more.
