Musician’s apartment re-cleaned after more anthrax found

NEW YORK, March 8 (Xinhua) — Environment officials in New York city said Wednesday that they have to re-clean the apartment of a musician infected with anthrax his apartment tested positive again for the deadly disease.

Officials cleaned Vado Diomande’s home in Manhattan’s West Village last Thursday, two weeks after the apartment was contaminated. But two areas of the apartment still tested positive for anthrax following the cleanup.

The Brooklyn warehouse where Diomande stored and worked with animal skins is also being cleaned, though some tenants have returned to the building.

The skins were used to make drums for the victim’s dance troupe.

Health officials said Diomande’s health is improving. He is currently listed in fair condition at the Pennsylvania hospital where he is being treated.

Diomande became ill and was hospitalized while performing in Pennsylvania.

The city health officials have stressed that the case appears to be isolated, accidental and naturally transmitted, ruling out the possibility of a bio-terror attack.

In the weeks following the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, letters laced with anthrax were discovered in several locations around the country, including New York. The attacks, which remain unsolved, killed five people and sickened 17.

Anthrax is a potentially deadly agent that naturally occurs in animals such as goats and cows.
