PBMI Drug Management Conference Addresses Specialty Pharmacy Benefit

Posted on: Thursday, 9 March 2006, 09:01 CST

The Pharmacy Benefit Management Institute (PBMI) 2006 Prescription Drug Utilization Management Conference, to be held April 26-28, 2006, at the Scottsdale Plaza Resort in Scottsdale, Ariz., will feature sessions on specialty pharmacy benefit design.

"Our conference faculty will address all aspects of the drug benefit, including a focus on specialty pharmacy," said Michael H. Deskin, PBMI president. Although commonly presented as an integrated, single offering by PBMs, each prescription delivery option -- retail, mail and specialty -- presents its own set of administrative, operational, clinical, and financial issues.

Randy Vogenberg, RPh, PhD, senior vice president and national practice council leader for Aon Consulting Life Sciences Practice, will address "Economics of the Specialty Pharmacy Benefit," from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. on Thursday, April 27. "Disease Management Strategies for Specialty Pharmacy," will be co-presented from 3:15 p.m. to 4 p.m. on April 27 by John R. Zevzavadjian, RPh, vice president of account management and Pauline T. Coderre, RPh, MS, director of clinical program management, both of PharmaCare.

Agenda Available Online

The conference agenda features experts presenting research findings, case studies and ready-to-implement strategies to manage utilization and control drug costs. Topics and case studies include the value of compliance, e-prescribing, evidence-based formulary design, management of physician prescribing, in-house pharmacy, and emerging PBM transparency standards.
