AmeriPath, Inc., the nation's largest company focused on providing anatomic pathology, cancer diagnostics, and related healthcare information services, is pleased to announce the expansion of its GI diagnostic services in the Atlanta, Georgia area.
Dr. Jerrold A. Clark, newly appointed Director of GI Diagnostics, AmeriPath Georgia, will head the development of AmeriPath's GI specialty services in the Georgia region, starting with the expansion of a new 6,700 square-foot, high-technology facility in Marietta, Georgia. Dr. Clark commented: "We firmly believe in bringing high-quality pathology services to the local medical community. Pathology is a critical element in ensuring that a patient receives appropriate treatment in a timely manner. The personal interaction between the pathologist and local gastroenterologist is crucial to enhancing the communication needed to provide quality patient care. We are not merely a provider of test results; we are an integral part of the gastroenterologist's consultative team."
Dr. Clark's experience encompasses over 25 years in anatomic pathology, with subspecialization in GI pathology and digestive disease. A graduate of the School of Medicine, Southern Illinois University, Springfield, Illinois, Dr. Clark completed his anatomic and clinical pathology residency and fellowship training at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Nashville, Tennessee. His formal medical education also included a six-year postgraduate program that featured a flexible graduate year -- with a rotation in gastroenterology -- at Blodgett Memorial Medical Center, Grand Rapids, Michigan. In addition Dr. Clark has trained with world-renowned GI pathologist Robert E. Petras, M.D., the current Director of AmeriPath's Institute of Gastrointestinal Pathology and Digestive Disease and Terry L. Gramlich, M.D., Director of Hepatopathology.
Dr. Clark has served with honor and great distinction in numerous key appointments within the clinical and academic service arenas, to include the following:
-- Associate professor, Mercer University School of Medicine, Macon, Georgia
-- Laboratory Director, Taylor Regional Hospital, Hawkinsville, Georgia
-- Laboratory Director, Bleckley County Hospital, Cochran, Georgia
-- Laboratory Director, Taylor-Telfair County Hospital, McRae, Georgia
-- Laboratory Director, Ocmulgee Outreach Pathology Services, Macon, Georgia
Bruce Walton, AmeriPath's President of Anatomic Pathology, Eastern Region, commented: "We are pleased and honored that Dr. Clark has accepted the position of Director of GI Diagnostics, AmeriPath Georgia. Our focus continues to be on the placement of local, highly qualified GI pathologists-- reinforced by the resources of a national company -- in order to achieve and maintain a truly unparalleled record of excellence in support of the medical communities and the patients we serve."
Dr. Clark's expertise and dedication to excellence reinforce the strength and commitment of our medical staff and fortify AmeriPath's vision of providing quality GI pathology services to our referring physicians in their medical communities. As a physician-driven organization, we understand the needs of clinicians and the importance of providing specialists in their local communities. This is what differentiates AmeriPath from the competition.
AmeriPath Georgia's cutting-edge GI Diagnostics services -- in direct support of its clinician clientele --will focus on primary GI histology, consultations on difficult cases, and esoteric testing. Major emphasis will be placed on assisting referring physicians in the early diagnosis and management of GI disease.
