15 Organizations to Receive Grants: Austin-Bailey Health and Wellness Foundation OKs Requests From Nonprofits Totaling $213,000

Mar. 20--CANTON -- Trustees of the Austin-Bailey Health and Wellness Foundation have approved grant requests totaling $212,801 to 15 nonprofit organizations.
The foundation, which has awarded $3.6 million since its inception in late 1996, was established with proceeds from the sale of Doctors Hospital in Perry Township. It advocates programs that promote the physical and mental health of people in Holmes, Stark, Tuscarawas and Wayne counties.
Those receiving grants:
-- The Arc of Stark County, $15,000 for summer camp.
-- Canton Learning Center for Children, $10,000 for one year of tutoring for two dyslexic children.
-- Echoing Hills Village in Canal Fulton, $3,505 for learning technology and a swim lift.
-- Faith in Action of Central Stark County, $15,000 for an assistant director for seniors programming.
-- Families First of Stark County, $8,822 for parenting education at Timken High School.
-- Horizons of Tuscarawas and Carroll Counties, $6,299 for therapeutic equipment.
-- J.R. Coleman Senior Outreach Services, $4,200 for adult day services.
-- Meals on Wheels of Stark and Wayne Counties, $25,000 for new oven and commissary equipment.
-- National Multiple Sclerosis Society of Independence, $10,000 for medical equipment and the respite program.
-- Quota International of Massillon, $25,000 for hearing aids for children 5 and under.
-- The Salvation Army Orrville Service Center, $10,000 for prescription drugs for needy people.
-- Stark County Health Department, $25,000 for dental clinic.
-- Stark Prescription Assistance Network, $40,000 for prescription drugs for needy people.
-- Tuscarawas Valley schools, $4,975 for sound system for the hearing impaired.
-- Western Stark Medical Clinic, $10,000 for operating support.
Austin-Bailey also has established $4,000 scholarships at Stark State College of Technology, Kent State University Tuscarawas Campus, Malone College and Walsh University for students enrolled in a health-related field.
There are two grant cycles each year. Deadlines for submitting grants are June 30 and Dec. 30. The foundation can be reached at 330-580-2380.
