Patient Care Technology Systems Demonstrates Automatic Patient & Asset Tracking at AORN Congress
Posted on: Tuesday, 21 March 2006, 09:01 CST
Patient Care Technology Systems (PCTS), a provider of advanced clinical information systems for high-acuity departments, announced today that they will be demonstrating their software for automatically tracking operating room patients and mobile medical equipment at the Association of periOperative Registered Nurses (AORN) Congress in Washington, D.C. The tracking solution, marketed as Amelior ORTracker(TM) automatic tracking, monitors the real-time location and care progression of patients in the operating suite with virtually no manual data entry required. PCTS will be demonstrating this software at AORN Congress in booth #1142 from March 21-23, 2006.
PCTS automatic tracking software allows for real-time data collection of patient location and care status utilizing most major tracking technology platforms including infrared, active RFID, and ultra-wideband hardware. Unlike traditional operating suite tracking systems which require manual updates by busy OR staff, PCTS automatic tracking software collects location data without manual intervention thereby enabling OR staff to focus on care giving. The software incorporates rules-based intelligence to translate interactions between staff, equipment and patients, measured by communications between tracking badges and sensors, to identify and time-stamp the progression of care for each patient. This information can be used to quickly identify patient flow bottlenecks and alert OR staff. The system integrates with existing communication tools such as nurse call and wireless phones to send and receive patient information updates thereby becoming a centralized communication base for all patient movement.
"We are excited to introduce Amelior ORTracker to attendees of AORN Congress," said Tony Marsico, CEO of PCTS. "Our automatic tracking software has generated significant results in both the operating suite and emergency department for our customers since 2000. We have designed Amelior ORTracker with the goal of being a centralized control center that will help the OR to improve patient flow and the utilization of clinical staff. Because the OR is such a dynamic environment requiring the coordination of multiple resources, staff need real-time information that is presented in a manner that will help them manage patient care effectively."
