Beijing, 23 March: A Sino-US research centre for clinical drugs has been founded in Beijing.
The centre, jointly established by Peking Union Medical College Hospital (PUMCH) of China and Wythe of the United States, will enable Chinese patients to benefit from new drugs, sources said.
According to the agreement, Wythe will set up a training and research programme and provide drugs for research and some of the full-time researchers. Meanwhile, the centre will cooperate with other Wythe centres to improve research efficiency.
The two sides will cooperate in clinical research for diseases including senile dementia, apoplexy, diabetes, osteoporosis and cancer.
"The clinical drug test for new drugs is very important as it decides whether a drug can be used clinically," Li Xuewang, vice- director of the hospital said.
"Qualified and efficient clinical drug tests can provide Chinese patients with innovative drugs," Li added.
Wythe is one of the top ten pharmaceutical companies. Wythe has increased its investment in research of new drugs in recent years and has chosen PUMCH as its partner in China.
PUMCH is a comprehensive hospital with 85 years' history and is the largest clinical pharmacology research base in China.
