Mar. 23--LIMA -- The Health & Fitness Expo is back for its fifth year.
The expo, presented by The Lima News and Better Health & Living Magazine, will be from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at Veterans Memorial Civic Center.
The featured event is an appearance by Pete Thomas, one of the contestants on "The Biggest Loser 2," a TV program that made a contest out of losing weight and being fit. Thomas, of Ypsilanti, Mich., won $100,000 for losing the most body fat, and he brought his lessons home to his wife after the show. She has lost 70 pounds.
"He's got a great story and we certainly think he will inspire and motivate the people of Northwest Ohio," said Bill Clinger, marketing director of The Lima News.
There will be booths and demonstrations from health and fitness groups and organizations, including gymnastics, karate and judo, and a new machine that targets the core from the YMCA.
The expo also serves as home base for final health assessments with the Get FIT program. The Columbus Blue Jackets Caravan will also make a stop at the expo, featuring an indoor rink. Seminars and workshops will also be available on topics from metabolism retraining to vitamins. There will also be health screenings available. "It's part of the community service that we do," Clinger said. Food will be available by Subway. Major sponsors include Lima Memorial Health Systems, St. Rita's Medical Center, Northwest Physical Therapy, YMCA and Thin & Healthy's Total Solutions.
