For Patients, Inc., a North Carolina Corporation established to provide innovative medical products for patients receiving treatment for chronic illnesses, has received approval for Medicare Reimbursement for its central venous catheter support, the CathSling(TM).
The CathSling(TM), a patent-pending, FDA regulated, non-adhesive medical device was invented by For Patients Inc.'s Founder Carol Walborn while she was a cancer patient undergoing chemotheraphy treatment at UNC Healthcare.
The CathSling is a simple, disposable fabric necklace that supports the external access tubing of certain central venous catheters, access needles for the portacath CVC during infusions and the IV lines attached to a Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter (PICC).
The patient, chronically ill for months or years, is implanted with a central venous catheter (CVC) to allow ongoing chemotherapy and blood transfusions without the need for multiple daily needle sticks. The CathSling(TM) allows the patient to support their IV lines and the catheter lumens (external tubes to which IV lines are attached) while asleep, while walking or sitting, while in the shower, and during any other activity as permitted by their physician.
"Most of the patients that can benefit from using the CathSling are being treated for a variety of critical diseases which include undergoing chemotherapy, bone marrow transplants, hemodialysis, intra-cardiac pressure monitoring and perenteral nutrition, " said Carol Walborn, Founder and CEO of For Patient's Inc.
"The CathSling not only improves patient quality of life, it may reduce additional healthcare costs related to infection and dislodgement. Medicare reimbursement allows more hospitals, clinics, hospices and home health agencies the ability to supply patients with this unique device affordably," she points out.
The CathSling has completed a field trial at Duke Medical Center, and received full recommendation for purchasing based upon the positive feedback from nurses and patients.
The CathSling(TM) is available in bulk for hospital use and as a retail display package for medical supply outlets. It is also available as part of For Patients, Inc'.s customized Dressing Change Kit.
