Art Auction Raises More Than $3,000 for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society
FRISCO, Texas, March 27 /PRNewswire/ — The first annual Works of HeART Art Auction raised more than $3,000 on Sunday, March 26, 2006. Local artists and cancer survivors showcased their unique artwork at Westin Stonebriar Resort in Frisco, Texas to raise money for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Co-coordinated by Terri Lee Archibald, a Centennial High School student, the auction attracted volunteers, parents and students.
“We were absolutely thrilled at the success of this first-year event,” commented Stacey Macphearson, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s School & Youth Programs Director. “One painting even sold for $600. We’re looking forward to making Works of HeART an annual event.”
One hundred percent of proceeds benefited The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Pennies for Patients program, a service learning project where school classrooms collect spare change and compete to win pasta and pizza parties. Ms. Macphearson adds, “The money raised by Works of HeART was Terri’s personal effort to make a contribution to the Society. What started out as a senior project at her school quickly became a successful fundraising event. I am very humbled by Terri’s community involvement.”
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is the world’s largest voluntary health organization dedicated to funding blood cancer research, education and patient services.
