EAGAN, Minn., March 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota(R) (Blue Cross) and Delta Dental Plan of Minnesota(R) (Delta Dental), the industry leaders in Minnesota's health care and dental benefit marketplace recently introduced the first combined medical/dental plan for the individual market.
"As Minnesota's largest and only statewide health plan, we have experienced significant growth in our individual health care product lines -- more than 20 percent since the beginning of 2004," said Brian Davis, individual market segment manager for Blue Cross. "So Blue Cross is trying to make it easier for individuals purchasing their own insurance to meet their coverage needs in one place."
"And they'll get a better rate on their dental coverage by bundling it with their Blue Cross insurance," Davis added.
The new individual dental plans for Aware Care(SM) and Options Blue members offer:
-- Savings of 5-11 percent on dental coverage premiums. -- A broad spectrum of coverage to meet an individual's basic dental care needs. -- Optional orthodontic coverage for children. -- No waiting periods for routine exams, fillings and some more involved procedures. -- Freedom to see any dentist. -- More savings if you use a dentist within Delta Dental's network, the largest in Minnesota. -- The security of the most trusted brands in both health care and dental coverage.
"We are pleased to partner with Blue Cross to offer individual Aware Care and Options Blue members a top quality dental benefit plan," said Gary Ballman, senior vice president, Marketing & Product Development at Delta Dental. "According to research conducted by the American Dental Hygienist Association, every $1 spent on prevention can help save $8-$40 in dental treatment costs. Also, there is preliminary research that indicates there may be a connection between an individual's oral health and major medical conditions like diabetes, cardiovascular disease, stroke and preterm births in pregnant women. Taking a proactive approach to your oral health may have a positive impact on your overall health."
