Bio-Imaging Technologies Signs Collaborative Agreement With LUMC/LKEB in Netherlands to Develop Quantitative CTA Software

Posted on: Thursday, 30 March 2006, 09:01 CST

Bio-Imaging Technologies, Inc. ("Bio-Imaging") (NASDAQ/NMS: BITI) today announced that it has entered into a collaborative agreement with Division of Image Processing ("LKEB") at the Department of Radiology at Leiden University Medical Center ("LUMC"), Leiden, The Netherlands. LKEB will develop clinical software for the quantitative analysis of CT angiography ("CTA") for Bio-Imaging's exclusive use in clinical trials. The CTA software will be tailored to the needs of Bio-Imaging's use of the software within the highly regulated clinical trials industry, including the need for comprehensive reporting and complete audit trails.

Mark L. Weinstein, President and Chief Executive Officer of Bio-Imaging, said, "Bio-Imaging has a long-standing relationship with LKEB and the Leiden University Medical Center. Prof. Johan H.C. Reiber, Ph.D., is the Director of LKEB, Department of Radiology, and a member of our Scientific Advisory Board. This collaborative agreement further strengthens the relationship between Bio-Imaging and LKEB and continues our strategy of introducing new image analysis services and expanding our therapeutic expertise in the cardiovascular area."

Prof. Reiber, Director of LKEB stated, "This agreement will ensure that Bio-Imaging remains on the cutting edge of imaging technology. In the past few years LKEB has developed several useful tools for quantitative analysis: the segmentation of vessel trees and vessel segments after the positioning of seed points, the quantitative analysis (diameter, area and stenosis measurements) of vessel segments, and quantitative analysis of in-stent restenosis in peripheral vessels (which was specifically developed for an in-stent restenosis study at Bio-Imaging). We believe the software engineers at LKEB are among the best in the world and that their continued efforts will result in an elegant and useful package."

Colin Miller, Senior Vice President of Medical Affairs, commented, "This agreement covers a three phase development plan that begins with quantitative analysis of large peripheral vessels and includes the refinement of our current in-stent restenosis program. With such an agreement, Bio-Imaging continues to ensure that the in-house software we utilize is of the optimum standard enabling us to continue to provide the high level of service and data quality for which we are known. Furthermore, this collaboration, with a world-renowned organization, allows Bio-Imaging to be at the leading edge of CTA in clinical trials."

John Blank, Managing Director of Bio-Imaging's European Operations, Leiden, remarked, "The location of our two organizations in Leiden facilitates the collaborative development of new quantitative imaging techniques. We value the close operational relationship with the Department of Radiology and the Division of Image Processing (LKEB) at Leiden University Medical Center and look forward to working with the outstanding team at LKEB on this project."
