Megola Endorses International Symposium on Health Aspects of Calcium and Magnesium in Drinking Water

Megola Inc. (OTC BB: MGOA), a leading environmental solution provider in physical water treatment, microbiological control, wastewater treatment and air purification, announced that it will be attending the International Symposium on Health Aspects of Calcium and Magnesium in Drinking Water in Baltimore, Maryland USA, from April 24-26, 2006.
Beginning about 50 years ago, numerous epidemiology studies in many countries concluded that populations consuming 'hard water' containing calcium and/or magnesium have a lower risk of certain types of cardiovascular disease. These studies have not always observed the 'hard water' benefit effect, but in 2004 a committee report to the World Health Organization (WHO -- http://www.who.int/en) concluded that, on balance, the benefits hypothesis was probably valid, especially for magnesium in drinking water. (Read the report here...)
In response to the 2004 recommendations, NSF International (http://www.nsf.org) and International Life Sciences Institute (ILSI -- http://www.ilsi.org) are assisting WHO by producing a scientific symposium on the epidemiology, dietary intake, biochemistry and health effects of magnesium and calcium as well as the practical concerns (treatment technology and costs) associated with adding magnesium and calcium to drinking water. The Symposium will review the possible health significance of magnesium and calcium in drinking water and help to define what questions need to be resolved before a decision can be made on the value of a water contribution of magnesium and calcium to total diet and what studies are necessary to do so.
Megola Inc. has long touted the benefits of its ScaleGuard(R) Physical Water Treatment technology to prevent and eliminate scale caused by hardwater as it neither adds harmful chemicals to water nor does it remove essential nutrients from it. Traditionally, residential hard water problems have been solved with ion-exchange (salt) water softeners, which are often environmentally unfriendly, time-consuming, expensive, and remove calcium and magnesium from the water in exchange for sodium. Megola's ScaleGuard(R) systems do not remove calcium or magnesium or change the bioavailability of these minerals in any way.
"With the announcement of this symposium it is encouraging to know that the incidental benefits of using a hardwater treatment technology such as ours are being recognized in such prestigious forums," states Michael Gardner, Environmental Scientist at Megola Inc.
