Texas Mutual Insurance Company Selects Concentra to Provide Workers' Compensation Health Care Network in Texas

Posted on: Thursday, 30 March 2006, 15:00 CST

ADDISON, Texas, March 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Concentra Inc. ("Concentra"), the nation's leading provider of workers' compensation medical services and cost management solutions, including occupational healthcare networks, announced today it was selected by Texas Mutual Insurance Company for their Texas Star Network(SM) offering in response to House Bill 7. Passed by the Texas Legislature in 2005, House Bill 7 is a workers' compensation regulatory reform bill designed to improve quality and access to care, control costs for Texas employers, and achieve higher return-to-work outcomes.

A major provision of House Bill 7 allows insurance carriers like Texas Mutual Insurance Company to contract with or establish medical networks. Injured workers covered by the network and residing in a network geographic service area must select their treating doctor from a list of approved occupational health care providers. Texas Star Network(SM) case managers will work with injured workers, employers, and health care providers to facilitate appropriate and cost-effective healthcare and return-to-work treatment plans. Texas Mutual Insurance has chosen to partner with Concentra to create the Texas Star Network(SM) offer.

"Texas Mutual Insurance Company has entrusted Concentra to manage the care of their policyholders and injured employees," said Bruce Singleton, Vice President, Product Development, Concentra Network Services. "Our mission is to help injured workers gain greater access to quality care by providing the right medical providers that deliver consistent appropriate treatment. We look forward to working closely with the Texas Mutual Insurance Company to deliver positive injured-employee outcomes for their policyholders."

"On-the-job accidents carry both human and monetary costs," said Lisa Corless, Texas Mutual(R) Senior Vice President of Claim and Information Services. "We created the Texas Star Network(SM) option to give us additional tools to help ensure both the availability of quality medical providers and cost management effectiveness by allowing injured workers to select their doctor from a specialized network of right providers. After a comprehensive review process, we determined that Concentra was the right affiliate for this major initiative."
