Center Leads Way to Good Mental Health

For 35 years, the Kenneth Young Center has provided community mental health and senior services to residents of Elk Grove and Schaumburg townships, and is considered a regional leader in providing behavioral health services.

What started out in 1970 as the Elk Grove Township Community Services, which focused on adult counseling and youth services, just two years later merged with the Schaumburg Township Mental Health Center to provide outpatient services, training and education, and day services for clients with serious mental illness. Within five years, it expanded to include senior programs.

Since 1998, all of the services have been centered in the agency’s Elk Grove facility, 1001 Rohlwing Road.

Just last year, the agency served more than 11,000 clients, including providing counseling and psychiatric services to 1,150 children and adolescents, 1,650 adults, as well as 4,350 seniors.

In addition, Kenneth Young officials offered information and referrals, and education programs to another 3,950 people.

The center sums up its mission this way: “Feel good, do better, find solutions.”
