Women in ‘Wolf-Bite’ Rash Alert
March 31, 2006
THOUSANDS of women in London could be suffering from repeated miscarriages because of an undiagnosed blood condition, an expert warned today.
About one in every 1,000 women has lupus but most do not know it. The condition, which gets its name from the “wolf-bite” rash that can appear on the face of sufferers, kicks the immune system into overdrive.
Professor Graham Hughes urged GPs to be on the alert for the condition, which could affect up to 5,000 women in the capital. Lupus can cause potentially fatal blood clots and trigger miscarriages.
