Smiths Medical Wins $3 Million Contract With Massachusetts General Hospital

CARLSBAD, Calif., April 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Smiths Medical has announced a $3.4 million contract with Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) for purchase of 1,365 Medfusion(TM) 3500 Syringe Pumps. Signed in July 2005, this agreement stipulates delivery of Medfusion(TM) 3500 Syringe Pumps with PharmGuard(TM) Medication Safety Software -- the most recent innovation in Smiths Medical's infusion technology -- for use by many departments at MGH.

The Medfusion(TM) 3500 Syringe Pump with PharmGuard(TM) Medication Safety software is a leading-edge infusion system that incorporates specific configuration profiles, a drug library composed of more than 4,000 entries, over 100 dosing units, and safety dose limits on all infusion parameters to help reduce medication errors that may otherwise occur. This smart pump's rapid occlusion detection technology with FlowSentry(TM) advanced pressure technologies offers a comprehensive array of pressure-related safety features, and its graphic display of pressure trend allows for earlier clinical intervention. The Medfusion(TM) 3500 Syringe Pump imports and exports data and protocols, and may be adapted and customized to interface with bedside environment.
