By Linda S. Morris, The Macon Telegraph, Ga.

Apr. 4–The Medical Center of Central Georgia celebrated Monday an addition to its Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit.

The expansion allows the unit to add six new beds for a total of 26 beds, according to a news release. Its unit centralizes care for patients who have had surgery or procedures to correct cardiovascular, thoracic and vascular diseases.

“We are very enthused about the new, state-of-the-art beds which allow us to continue to provide state-of-the-art care for critical post-operative patients,” Dr. James Cunningham, medical director of the cardiovascular unit, said in a news release.

The Medical Center — with about 600 beds — has 4,300 employees and a medical staff of 500 doctors.
