By Linda S. Morris, The Macon Telegraph, Ga.

Apr. 4--The Medical Center of Central Georgia celebrated Monday an addition to its Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit.

The expansion allows the unit to add six new beds for a total of 26 beds, according to a news release. Its unit centralizes care for patients who have had surgery or procedures to correct cardiovascular, thoracic and vascular diseases.

"We are very enthused about the new, state-of-the-art beds which allow us to continue to provide state-of-the-art care for critical post-operative patients," Dr. James Cunningham, medical director of the cardiovascular unit, said in a news release.

The Medical Center -- with about 600 beds -- has 4,300 employees and a medical staff of 500 doctors.
