HealthGate Leaps Towards Fast Integration of Latest Clinical Evidence in Support of Hospital-Wide Quality Improvement Initiatives; Quality Architect(TM) To Integrate Health Language's Language Engine Technology
Posted on: Tuesday, 4 April 2006, 12:01 CDT
Health Language, Inc. ("HLI"), a world leading supplier of medical vocabulary and concept-based technology, and HealthGate Data Corp. today announced that they have formed a strategic relationship to bring Health Language's Language Engine ("LE") Technology into HealthGate's flagship product, Quality Architect(TM). This integration accelerates the creation, maintenance, and deployment of evidence-based order sets, pathways, and clinical guidelines by automating the indexing and mapping of evidence-based content into a variety of clinical information systems.
There's a price to pay when hospitals deploy sophisticated healthcare quality improvement systems that consolidate vast amounts of content: it's the time spent mapping and maintaining links to the standard terminology systems used by vendors of electronic health information systems. For those hospitals that have deployed or are about to deploy a computerized physician order entry system ("CPOE"), it's also critical to be able to correlate evidence-based recommendations for a specific care decision to the correct terms in the CPOE system. HealthGate selected the LE to implement transparent, automated synchronization of terminology and standards in its Quality Architect solution, which will result in a dramatic reduction in lag time between the publication of approved clinical evidence and hospital-wide deployment of updated, relevant recommendations for improved quality of care and patient safety.
The complexities of healthcare terminology and code sets have, in the past, slowed the system-wide deployment of evidence-based practices. HealthGate's decision to integrate LE into Quality Architect provides a solution to the problem of such mapping enabling intelligent, automated management of clinical health data, via indexing using standard clinical terminologies such as SNOMED-CT and Rx Norm, while increasing efficient collaboration between clinicians and their teams.
"Our agreement with HealthGate underscores our commitment to provide content providers the solutions they need to address the growing need for controlled medical vocabularies. LE continues to strengthen the opportunities for our strategic partners to compete in the global marketplace", stated George Schwend, President and CEO of HLI.
"It's imperative for hospitals to be able to execute fast clinical reviews and implement rapid turn-around of new evidence-based guidelines", explained Bill Reece, CEO of HealthGate, "and this next step in our technology road map brings Quality Architect to the forefront of quality improvement enablers."
