Local Cardiovascular Group Receives National Recognition for Providing High Quality Cardiovascular and Stroke Care

Posted on: Tuesday, 11 April 2006, 12:00 CDT

Local Cardiovascular Group, Cardiovascular Consultants, Ltd.,(CVC) has earned recognition from the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) and the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association (AHA/ASA) through their Heart/Stroke Recognition Program (HSRP).

The HSRP program awards recognition to physicians who demonstrate that they provide high quality care to patients with cardiac conditions or who have had a stroke. The program is designed to encourage other physicians to document and improve their delivery of cardiovascular and stroke care. To receive recognition, which is valid for three years, CVC submitted data that demonstrate performance which met or exceeded the program's key measures. These measures include blood pressure and cholesterol control, complete lipid profile, use of aspirin or other antithrombotics and smoking cessation advice or treatment.

"We are pleased to have received this honor," says Andrei Damien, M.D., president of CVC. "Continuous improvement and delivery of quality patient care translates into better quality of life for the more than 60 million Americans who have one or more types of cardiovascular disease."

According to the American Heart Association, cardiovascular disease accounts for $393.5 billion in costs annually. About 700,000 people will have a stroke this year, making it the nation's third killer and a leading cause of severe long term disability. The Heart/Stroke Recognition Program was developed to provide a platform to aid physicians in developing practice protocols to improve care and ultimately improve the life and well being of patients.

NCQA is a private, non-profit organization dedicated to improving health care quality. NCQA accredits and certifies a wide range of health care organizations, recognizes physicians and physician groups in key clinical areas and manages the evolution of HEDIS(R), the tool the nation's health plans use to measure and report on their performance. NCQA is committed to providing health care quality information through the Web, media and data licensing agreements in order to help consumers, employers and others make more informed health care choices.
