Dennis Litos Named CEO of Doctors Medical Center of Modesto

Posted on: Wednesday, 12 April 2006, 18:00 CDT

Tenet California announced today that Dennis Litos has been named chief executive officer at Doctors Medical Center of Modesto, effective June 1. Litos, 57, was the chief executive officer of Ingham Regional Medical Center, a large, three-campus not-for-profit health system in Lansing, Mich., for the past 12 years.

"Denny Litos is a nationally respected health care executive with close to thirty years experience who brings a proven track record of implementing quality patient service and progressive business strategy to one of our flagship hospitals," said Stephen L. Newman, Tenet California's chief executive officer. "We welcome his broad expertise in building centers of excellence for multiple health care systems."

"I have always had a deep interest in proprietary health care systems since so many non-profit systems are following that model," Litos said. "I am truly pleased to be joining Tenet as a new member of its hospital leadership team. Tenet management has demonstrated a high level of integrity and commitment to quality, which are characteristics I value and appreciate."

Litos is a veteran hospital administrator. He is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives, and has served on several civic and health care-related boards and commissions in his native Michigan. He was the Governor's Life Extension Foundation Outstanding Hospital Administrator of the Year in 1996; and Ingham Medical Center, under his leadership, has won multiple awards from quality measurement experts J.D Powers and HealthGrades for the past several years.

Litos worked his way up the executive ladder in health care, starting as the credit manager for a small hospital in Detroit in 1977. He then occupied a series of progressively more senior positions at several community hospitals, until being named executive vice president and chief operating officer at Clinton Memorial Hospital in St. Johns, Michigan in 1982. Immediately following that position, he was named executive vice president and chief operating officer of Lansing General Hospital in 1986, where he served for the next six years. He went to Ingham Regional Medical Center in 1992, and was named president and chief executive officer in 1994. At Ingham, Litos reorganized the hospital's senior management team, developed a long-range strategic vision with the board, physicians and management, and ultimately turned an $8 million dollar annual financial loss into a $12 million profit -- all while measurably increasing the system's patient care quality.

Litos received a bachelor of science degree in business administration at Wayne State University, and a master's degree in management from Central Michigan University and a master's degree in healthcare administration from Trinity University. Litos is married, and has four grown children.
