BATTLE CREEK, Mich., April 28 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Kellogg's Smart Start Healthy Heart is partnering with the actress Sela Ward in its continued efforts to raise awareness of women's heart disease. The Emmy Award-winning actress is featured on specially marked boxes of Smart Start Healthy Heart cereal that offer consumers an exclusive limited-edition "Do More" bracelet and sterling silver heart charm. The bracelet and charm are available with a donation to the American Heart Association's Go Red for Women Movement, which raises awareness of women's heart disease. Smart Start Healthy Heart is a national supporter of Go Red for Women.
Approximately one woman dies every minute of cardiovascular disease, nearly half a million women each year.(1) In fact, despite widespread belief that heart disease affects primarily men, more women than men die of heart disease. Most people who suffer from cardiovascular disease are affected by its two leading risk factors: high blood pressure and high cholesterol. Smart Start Healthy Heart cereals are designed to help Americans who are actively seeking ways to improve their heart health. Featuring oat bran, potassium and low sodium, Smart Start Healthy Heart is the only national cold cereal with ingredients that may help lower both blood pressure and cholesterol. The cereal is certified by the American Heart Association.
"Chances are, women's heart health can affect someone you love as it did with me," said Ward, whose mother suffered from heart disease. Ward encourages women to, "Listen to your heart...Be smart, get informed and commit yourself to a heart-healthy lifestyle."
Most recently, Ms. Ward was seen in the critically acclaimed Fox Television series "House." She has appeared in many major feature films including "The Day After Tomorrow" and "The Fugitive." A two-time Emmy Award winner for her performances in the TV series' "Once and Again" and "Sisters," she also received the CableACE award for her portrayal of Jessica Savitch in "Almost Golden." Proud of her Southern roots, Ms. Ward has authored a book about her life growing up in the South, Homesick: A Memoir.
Consumers can obtain the "Do More" bracelet and charm by mailing two UPCs from specially marked packages of Smart Start Healthy Heart cereals along with a minimum donation to the American Heart Association -- fifteen dollars for the bracelet and charm or five dollars for the charm alone.
