Advaxis Enrolls Patients to Cervical Cancer Vaccine Trial
Posted on: Tuesday, 2 May 2006, 09:01 CDT
The first cancer patients to be treated with an engineered live Listeria vaccine were dosed in Advaxis Inc. (OTCBB: ADXS) Phase I/II clinical trial of Lovaxin C, a Listeria-based therapeutic cancer vaccine developed to treat cervical cancer. Several additional patients are being screened. The trial, taking place in Serbia, Israel and Mexico, will enroll 20 cervical cancer patients and is expected to last approximately six months, with the fundamental objective to demonstrate the safety of Lovaxin C.
This is the first human study by Advaxis in its proposed development of a new class of cancer therapies. These therapies use modified Listeria to deliver a tumor specific antigen, which together have the ability to generate a robust immune response involving multiple integrated immune mechanisms and is characterized by high levels of tumor-infiltrating cytotoxic T cells.
It is expected that this "first in man" trial of a live Listeria cancer vaccine will demonstrate the ability to give therapeutic concentrations of Lovaxin C safely.
